Introduction

In the Department of String Instruments, students can study to become a violinist, violist, cellist or double bassist. In addition to speciality subjects, students practise ensemble and orchestral playing. The history of string music, the pedagogy of string instruments and other related subjects are also studied. Performances play an important role in gaining stage experience. During the period of study, students have the opportunity to engage in national and international competitions and participate in numerous masterclasses.

Students will be prepared to pursue further studies in a higher music school or work as a soloist, in an orchestra or as a teacher.

Studies conclude with a chamber ensemble and vocational examination. The final examinations in harmony and solfeggio serve as entrance examinations for the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. Graduates receive the fourth qualification level instrumentalist profession.

Students of the string instruments speciality must complete the instrumentalist curriculum.
