Introduction
In the Department of Wind and Percussion Instruments, students can pursue training to become a flautist, oboist, clarinettist, saxophonist, bassoonist, French horn player, trumpeter, trombonist, tuba player or percussionist. All percussion instruments and drum kits used in symphony orchestras and ensembles are studied within this curriculum. In addition to speciality subjects, students also acquire basic knowledge of the methodology of musical instrument playing, the history of wind music and the basics of conducting. Playing skills are developed in ensemble classes as well as through participation in symphony and wind orchestras.
Students also have the opportunity to participate in the Eller wind orchestra, Eller Brass, big band and saxophone, flute and percussion ensembles. In the Department of Percussion Instruments, students are prepared to pursue further studies at a higher music school or work as a soloist, orchestrant, teacher or in other related fields. Graduates can continue their studies at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre or abroad. Studies conclude with a speciality examination. The final examinations in harmony and solfeggio serve as entrance examinations for the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. Graduates receive the fourth qualification level instrumentalist profession.
Students of the wind or percussion instruments speciality must complete the instrumentalist curriculum.
