Preparatory course 

Registration for the preparatory course in preparation for admission to the academic year 2024/25

 

The purpose of the paid preparatory course is to prepare individuals for upper secondary entrance examinations in solfeggio and a specific speciality.  

 

This course is for you if:

- there has been a longer gap in your music studies;

- your current musical preparation is insufficient to begin studies in school.

 

The solfeggio course is held at the Heino Eller Tartu Music College (Lossi 15, Tartu) from November to May in the form of contact lessons.

Course dates

2023: 4 November, 18 November, 2 December, 16 December

2024: 13 January, 3 February, 17 February, 9 March, 23 March, 6 April, 20 April, 4 May

Each meeting consists of two 90-minute sessions.

Times: 11:00–12:30 and 13:00–14:30. Classrooms A216 and A221.

 

Topics covered in the course include: 

Basic elements of musical notation

Treble clef and bass clef

Modes (different types of major and minor scales) and keys

Intervals and chords (in and out of modes) 

Note values and rhythms, simpler time signatures

Melodic and rhythmic dictation

Chord progression

Sight-singing

 

The course is carried out by the teachers Mariell Piispea and Terje Heido-Rosenberg.

 

Information about the cost of the course:

The cost of the course is 150 euros and, in addition to the dates specified above, two additional lessons will be provided in June 2024 at agreed times as a bonus before the entrance examinations.

The course fee can be paid in two instalments on the basis of an invoice: 70 euros in November and 80 euros in February. 

The speciality lesson is scheduled by mutual agreement with the participant and costs 18 euros (45 minutes).  The course fee is not eligible for an income tax refund.
